Welcome to the project
What this is all about and why
Each week we will publish a write up of sorts.
You can expect these to be wide ranging & encompass plenty of subject matter. If you’d like some backstory, read on…
If not, you can join our resource group here and call it a day.
Why this project exists
The world is speeding up.
As we move towards machine learning, automation, the “Metaverse,” there remains a need for humans to select what they read and consume — the better you are at controlling your inputs, the more grounded you will be in the long run.
I love to read.
I take copious notes of my study material and each month I sit down to decide, “What am I going to learn this month?” After a decade of teaching & consulting - I’ve had the privilege of training and working with a slew of authors, publishers, educators & trainers.
One day I sat down and thought, “I wonder if people would enjoy reading WITH me.” So I asked…
And the response was overwhelming.
Turns out I’m not the only one craving good, old fashioned reading. Yes I can type into ChatGPT “Teach me everything you know about this subject.” But I enjoy the work, the actual work — of sitting down, with a great book, and going deeper.
So I created a project, aptly titled “Humans Reading Books.” Not computers. Not AI… just us, humans. Each week I send out an email that covers some of my best reading & learning from the week before, and each month I plan my reading & interview the authors behind the work I am studying.
For reference, I usually have 4 main books going at a time:
An old, classic, general business or “self-help” book
A topical (usually newer) piece
Biographical or historical figure
Fiction “for fun” (fantasy, mystery, etc)
Spiritual books for me fall into category #2 because they’re usually topical and mostly newer.
In the next several months this project will likely become “a thing.” By that I mean, a bigger project with more and more value being accrued & delivered along the way.
There are three main components of this:
Interviewing authors (each month I’m interviewing the authors behind their work, this will be fun)
Private study clubs (pick a subject, and go through a list of reading with a co-hurt)
Book marketplace (where old books and classics can be bought & sold)
I’m glad you’re here with me at the beginning!
Let’s read!
